The Missing

Haunted by disappearances during his childhood – his grandfather, missing in action, a little boy abducted from his neighbourhood, and several women, victims of a serial killer – Andrew O’Hagan made disappearance and what it does to those left behind the subject of his first book in 1995. He begins with memories of his Glasgow childhood, and in the second half of the book investigates the realms of the missing: the back streets and margins of Britain, finding those who are being looked for and those nobody has missed.
