Profile:
Tom McCarthy

Tom McCarthy is a writer and artist. He is the author of the novels Remainder, Men in Space and C, and has also written a book of literary criticism on the works of Hergé. His artwork includes the multimedia installation piece 'Greenwich Degree Zero', produced in collaboration with Rod Dickinson, which depicts the Greenwich Observatory burning the ground, and a collaboration with Loris Gréaud to produce an 'Ontic Helpline' for a fictitious 'Thanatalogical Corporation' - a black telephone that transfers callers through an endless loop of pre-recorded messages.

He is also known for the reports, manifestos and media interventions he has made as General Secretary of the International Necronautical Society (INS), a semi-fictitious avant-garde network which he founded with Simon Critchley.
